Monthly imputation of train cancellations from 2025 onwards

Monthly data on the number of cancelled trains on the Infrabel network, broken down by responsible entity. 

A train may be cancelled for its entire route or only for part of it.

This dataset replaces the dataset "Allocation of cancelled trains per month".

Changes compared to the previous dataset:

Revision of the counting method for cancelled trains

In previous versions of the dataset, the same train could be counted several times if it was cancelled due to different incidents. This method could lead to a slight overestimation of the total number of cancelled trains.

From now on, each cancelled train is counted only once, regardless of the complexity or number of causes of the cancellation. This change provides a more accurate representation of operational reality.

Addition of a new category: trains with modified stop(s)

These trains have skipped at least one scheduled stop. The reasons can vary: accumulated delay, shortened train composition, etc.

Until now, these trains were counted among partially cancelled trains. With this new dataset, they can be identified separately, providing a more precise view of operational practices.

Breakdown of passenger train types

The dataset now distinguishes between two main categories:

• Public service trains operated by SNCB (L, P, IC, S)
• All commercial passenger trains, including SNCB public service trains, international trains, replacement trains, extra trains, etc.

For each of these two categories and for each responsible entity, the following indicators are provided monthly:

• Total number of cancelled trains
• Number of fully cancelled trains
• Number of partially cancelled trains
• Number of trains with modified stop(s)
• The allocation of the responsible entity, i.e. the ratio between the total number of cancelled trains caused by the entity and the total number of cancelled trains for the given month.

Important note

The previous dataset "Allocation of cancelled trains per month" will be closed after the October 2025 data and will no longer be updated thereafter.
